BYD Unveils Super e-Platform with Megawatt Flash Charging for Electric Vehicles, Matching Refueling Speeds

  • BYD Super e-Platform: a full-domain 1000V high-voltage architecture
  • BYD Flash Charging Battery: a charging current of 1000A and a charging rate of 10C, fastest in the world
  • BYD Megawatt Flash Charging: charge 1 second for 2 kilometers
  • BYD Han L and Tang L Starts Officially Pre-sales in China

  • On March 17, 2025, BYD officially launched its revolutionary Super e-Platform, setting a new benchmark in the electric vehicle (EV) industry with unprecedented charging speeds and performance capabilities. This platform is the world’s first full-domain 1000V high-voltage architecture for mass-produced passenger vehicles, significantly enhancing the powertrain and energy systems by integrating ultra-high voltage (1000V) and ultra-high current (1000A) across key components including the battery, motor, and power supply. A highlight of the platform is BYD’s newly developed Flash Charging Battery, which introduces ultra-fast ion channels and reduces internal resistance by 50%, achieving a world-record charging rate of 10C and a charging current of 1000A. This allows for a peak charging power of 1 megawatt (1000kW), enabling the vehicle to gain 2 kilometers of range per second — or 400 kilometers in just 5 minutes — effectively matching the time it takes to refuel a traditional gasoline car and addressing the long-standing issue of “charging anxiety.”

The Super e-Platform also incorporates the world’s first mass-produced 30,000 RPM motor, which dramatically increases speed and efficiency while reducing weight and size, ultimately improving the power-to-weight ratio and overall driving performance. Complementing these advancements are BYD’s next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) power chips, rated up to 1500V — the highest in the automotive industry — allowing the system to operate safely and efficiently at extremely high voltages.

To support the platform’s capabilities, BYD has developed an all-liquid-cooled Megawatt Flash Charging terminal system, capable of delivering up to 1360kW of power. This is part of a broader infrastructure strategy that includes plans to deploy over 4,000 Megawatt Flash Charging stations across China. Additionally, BYD’s dual-gun charging and intelligent voltage boost technologies ensure backward compatibility with existing public fast-charging stations, making the ecosystem more accessible and versatile for users.

The first models to feature this next-gen platform are the BYD Han L and Tang L, which have officially started pre-sales in China and are set to launch in April. These vehicles represent a major leap forward not just for BYD, but for the global EV industry, as the Super e-Platform redefines what is possible in electric mobility and sets a new standard for performance, efficiency, and user convenience.
